The West Arms enjoys an idyllic setting in the foothills of the Berwyn Mountain, a rural paradise and is a historic 16th Century building with considerable character. It is a well established olde Inn having offered hospitality since 1570 as a Drovers' Inn and boasts genuine slate flagged floors and inglenook fireplaces.

In addition to many castles and places of historic interest which abound the area, this Hidden Valley as it is known, offers many activities and pursuits featured in the page titled "Local Attractions".

From Chirk to Llanarmon DC, the Ceiriog Valley Walk is made up of 12 miles and seven separate stages of fairly gentle hiking through pastures and woodland, riverbanks, ancient trails, via villages and hamlets, all set amidst the peace and tranquility of some of the most stunning countryside.

The famous Pistyll Rhaeadr Waterfall is a scenic 20 minute drive and Lake Vrynwy is a little further on from Llanrhaedr.

If busier areas are on your agenda, the walled city of Chester is only a 40 minute drive, and Shrewsbury the same distance.

If you prefer to stay and relax, The West Arms has inglenook log fires, old beams, undulating floors and an award winning rosette restaurant for you to indulge.

Much coveted entries in the Good Food Guides of 2012 and again in 2013's edition together with accolades from well known critics such as Giles Coren (Times review and The Week Magazine November 2011) plus Jasmine Guinness, (see Telegraph article link ) makes us incredibly proud of our team.

The West Arms was recently featured on BBC 2's "Our Food" programme shown in April 2012, hosted by Giles Coren - when our Chef Grant produced a typical Drovers' meal for Giles and the local expert on Drovers, Idris Evans (from Ruthin). Grant served Mutton Cawl, followed by Oatcakes with Local Ceiriog Honey..offering a similar ambience and atmosphere experienced by the Drovers all those hundreds of years ago!

We stayed for one night with our dog Guinness. We hadn't expected to find snow on Easter Sunday but it was beautiful and only added to the charm. It was very relaxing, beautiful scenery, charming hotel and the staff made us very welcome and they looked after us from the time we arrived until the time we left. The food was fab and the service was excellent, and no matter where we sat, our food was brought to us. Absolutely fantastic. Will definitely be returning.
